Another word in the Midwest that has a slightly different meaning. Most people think of a beach as the soft white sand along the salty ocean. In the Midwest, a beach is any strip of land along any body of water. I think the beaches along the great lakes qualify pretty well, but there are some other areas that we consider beaches that no one else would. A reservoir. A pond. A creek.
Funny story. One of our little hiking adventures took us to Issac Lake; no beach there, but a trail in the woods led us along the creek with a dirt patch next to it, and what did I say? “Ohhh it’s a little beach! We could have a picnic here and enjoy the water!” Ha!
